More than 880 faculty and students of SCNU attended the flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on the Shipai campus in Guangzhou on October 1.
The National Flag Escort of SCNU marched with steady steps. After the national flag had been raised and fluttered in the wind, all the people stood respectfully and sang the national anthem.
Wu Jian, vice president of SCNU, delivered a speech after the raising of the national flag. He noted that each generation has its own opportunities and missions. Wu also outlined three wishes for students. First, he anticipated that students would be able to set goals and strive for them. Second, he urged them to adhere to the unity of knowledge and action, and to take real action. He also hoped that students would improve their skills and be courageous dream chasers.

After Wu's speech, six representatives of young students gave a recitation. They conveyed the sense of responsibility and mission of the young generation and expressed the Chinese youth's pledge to contribute to the nation and society.

Zhang Cun, 2024 undergraduate counselor at the Institute for Brain Research and Rehabilitation, was honored to lead student representatives to participate in the flag-raising ceremony. "This is an important moment to enhance the cohesion of the Chinese people and nation." He believed that these experiences were not only an education for the students but also a spiritual touch for the teachers. On this special occasion, Zhang extended his wishes for the prosperity of the country.

Yang Yan, a 2023 undergraduate majoring in Marxist Theory at the School of Marxism, participated in the flag-raising ceremony as a member of the National Flag Escort of SCNU. "We train regularly to ensure the professionalism of the escort and rehearse before the ceremony to familiarize ourselves with the process." She said. With a deep reverence for the national flag, Yang Yan carries out her responsibility with practical action. Every time she raises the flag, she shows her respect and loyalty to the motherland.

Music and concert events
The concert named "Youth praise to the motherland", which was also a new student welcome gala, was held on September 29 at the concert hall on the University Town campus.
The ninth "SCNU Music" with the theme I love you, China, was jointly held by the SCNU Library, the School of Music and the School of History & Culture as a sincere gift to the country.
The Vocal Teacher's Concert of the School of Music was held in the concert hall of the University Town campus. A dozen musicians performed classical pieces.
More activities to celebrate National Day
An activity named "Words to the Motherland" attracted SCNUers to offer sincere blessings to the motherland, wishing for a prosperous and thriving nation.
Retired teachers held a poetry recital aimed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which also included other performances showing good spirit.
An exhibition of over 170 works of poetry, calligraphy, painting and photography by retired teachers was held in the library of Shipai campus. They show the great changes and the new face of China.
The School of Education organized a Nation Day flash mob SCNU to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on the afternoon of 26 September.
Student representatives of the School of Economics and Management sang I Love You China with passion and sincerity.
